Over the past couple of weeks, we have been lucky to have Severn Trent visit our school to help teach us how to recycle, reduce our plastic waste and help stay hydrated.
Recycling Assembly
Representatives from Severn Trent came to teach the children about how to recycle their household waste. We learnt about all the different bins that you can find across Derbyshire and what goes in them, with particular emphasis on the bins the children will have at home. The pupils learnt where to put their cardboard and paper, what goes in your garden waste bin and also what types of food can go into your food waste bin (so there should be no excuses from them about not knowing where to put their rubbish!!)
As an extra treat, MBHT got a visit from a recycling lorry so the children could see first hand how their waste is transported and the job that is involved in transporting it. They got to see the lifts and crusher in action, as well as being able to sit in the cab to see the high-tech dashboard and cameras.
Hydration Heroes and Plastic Pollution
As part of the work that Severn Trent do to help keep our waters safe and clean, MBHT were able to take part in a hydration assembly, where the children learnt all about how to keep hydrated, what can make you dehydrated and what we should do with our plastics when we are finished with them. We followed the story of a young person that had a busy day and we identified when they would need a drink as they were getting dehydrated. Children also learnt about the PEE Scale which helps us to identify when our bodies are telling us we need to drink some water based upon the colour of our urine!
Will you take the pledge and stay hydrated?
"I promise to stay hydrated,
by drinking plenty of tap water,
using a refillable water bottle,
and recycle my plastics,
to help look after our environment."
