SCIENCE

The 2014 National Curriculum for Science aims to ensure that all children:

develop scientific knowledge and conceptual understanding through the specific disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics

develop an understanding of the nature, processes and methods of science through different types of science enquiries that help them to answer scientific questions about the world around them

are equipped with the scientific knowledge required to understand the uses and implications of science, today and for the future

INTENT

We intend for our children to develop an inquiring mind, which enables them to investigate, experiment and discuss Scientific concepts in Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Through the development of knowledge around key concepts, sources, cause & consequence and their own questioning of other Scientists throughout History, children will become inquisitive individuals.

IMPLEMENTATION

Children explore science through a wide range of topics and hands-on opportunities.  This exploration is implemented with a range of sources, experiments, investigations, visits, workshops and virtual experiences that enhance the development of knowledge.  Our curriculum is planned as such that it provides our children with regular opportunities to revise and revisit their Scientific learning. Children actively explore in an investigative manner through planning, engaging and evaluating within a multitude of scientific concepts. They present their knowledge in a variety of ways, both teacher and child-led.

IMPACT

Children of MBHT leave school as aware individuals with the knowledge and understanding to explain, predict and analyse natural phenomena.  They are equipped with essential knowledge of the implications of Science today. This is then a platform for children to explore their future with a sense of excitement and curiosity about the world around them.
