  • 🔬🧪Sublime Science🔬🧪

    Thu 20 Apr 2023

On Tuesday 18th April, we were lucky enough to have Dr Ramin from Sublime Science come to school to teach us all about how to be amazing scientists. We looked at how to be safe in our labs and what symbols on packing tell us about how harmful they can be. We investigated what makes our drinks fizzy and the reactions that take place in our stomachs after we drink them. Next, we learnt about gravity and air resistance, making balls float in the air. Using smoke and an air cannon, Dr Ramin showed us how air travels in spheres when fired. We had some very brave volunteers to test how certain materials absorb liquids (though with any science, there was an anomalous result!) To finish off, we all descended to the playground to fire a rocket!!

  • 🥚Easter Craft Afternoon🥚

    Mon 20 Mar 2023

What a way to end the Spring term. The PFTA here at MBHT organised an amazing craft afternoon for the children, parents and friends of the school. The children had a great time painting egg cups, making easter wreaths and creating Easter baskets. We had a surprise visit from Gully from Guillver's Kingdom. He really enjoyed meeting all the children. The biggest attraction of the afternoon was the tombola which was piled high with lots of chocolate treats. The money raised by the PFTA will go towards providing the pupils at MBHT with more school trips, new equipment and lots more exciting activities.

  • 📚 World Book Day 📚

    Thu 09 Mar 2023

Here at MBHT, we always have a great time for World Book Day and this year was no different. This year, we decided to let our creativity run free by challenging the children (and staff) to come as their favourite book character.

We ventured through Middle Earth, cycled round the world, met the Cat in the Hat and even journeyed from deepest, darkest Peru. All the children looked amazing in their costumes and they enjoyed sharing their favourite books. It was wonderful to see so much reading happening across the school.

  • 🎉50 years of MBHT🎉

    Mon 06 Mar 2023

2023 marks the 50th anniversary of the opening of Matlock Bath Holy Trinity C of E Primary School!

On Tuesday 27th February 1973, The Lord Bishop of Derby, Rt Rev C W J Bowles MA opened the brand new building that is our current school. To mark this historic landmark in the school's history, the PFTA organised an outstanding tea party for former students and staff of the school. It was amazing to see some many people gather in our school to celebrate and reminisce about their time here.

As part of the celebrations, the legendary John Gill, who taught music at the school for several years, serenaded us with his outstanding music. Pupil and staff, past and present, thoroughly enjoyed every minute of the celebrations and it was wonderful to see how the previous generations have so many fond memories to share with our current MBHT community.

Here is to the next 50 years of Imagining, Believing and Achieving.

  • 🥞Flipping fun at church🥞

    Thu 16 Feb 2023

On our most recent Collective Worship in church, we looked at Lent and what it means for Christians during this time. During Lent, Christians decide to "give up" something in their lives so that they can feel closer to God. This relates to the story in the Bible, where Jesus entered the desert to prepare himself for his teaching of the Word of God. He didn't eat for 40 days, even thought the Devil tried to temp Jesus.

To mark the beginning of Lent (and to use up all the flour, eggs and sugar in the house), we celebrate Shrove Tuesday, more commonly known as Pancake Day! Shelia set the children the challenge to see how many flips of a pancake they could do in 15 seconds. The children persevered in their challenge very well.

  • Young Voices Choir

    Mon 06 Feb 2023

On Thursday 2nd February, sixteen members of the school choir travelled to Sheffield to perform as part of the World's Largest Choir!!!

The children have described this event as a day that they will never forget.

Check out the gallery for photos taken during the rehearsal and live concert.

Did you know that there were over 5,000 children singing?

  • 🧪🔬Science Club🔬🧪

    Mon 30 Jan 2023

    WATCH OUT!!

Science Club have been busy learning about forces and pivots. They used their knowledge to build mini catapults to fire paper projectiles. They measured how far they could send their payloads and made adjustments to see if they could improve.

With such super scientists in our school, who knows what weird and wacky experiments they will be cooking up next time!

  • 🔥💧🌍✈️Magna Science Centre Trip✈️🌍💧🔥

    Thu 19 Jan 2023

Excitement was buzzing as we boarded the coach. Our destination? Magna Science Centre in Rotherham. House in several large warehouses that used to contain steel furnaces that produced (and made famous) Sheffield Steel, Magna offers a hands on experience with the elements, getting the children closer to the raw materials that were used during the process of smelting steel.

In the Fire Pavilion, the children could see how electricity was used to heat the raw materials up to make steel, even having the opportunity to create their own heat using the machines around the pavilion. The main draw if the Fire pavilion was the Fire Tornado, which was a welcome sight on a chilly day.

Venturing below, the Earth Pavilion explored how the raw materials for making steel were extracted from the earth. The children could move rocks using a series of pullies and conveyor belts across the whole pavilion, before detonating some TNT to blow a new whole in a quarry. By far the biggest (and the most fun) highlight of Earth were the JCB diggers that the children could use to scoop up rocks (plastic balls) from the quarry.

Following the flow, the children made a splash in the Water Pavilion where they learnt all about the huge amounts of water that were needed to cool the steel once it had been melted. The Water Pavilion also looked at how water was used to power areas of the steel works and how it was used to transport both the raw materials and finished steel across the country and beyond.

Overall, we had an amazing day learning all about how steel was made using the different elements as well as seeing one of the remaining furnaces which showed how the molten steel travelled when in the steel works.

  • 💧Severn Trent Visits💧

    Thu 01 Dec 2022

Over the past couple of weeks, we have been lucky to have Severn Trent visit our school to help teach us how to recycle, reduce our plastic waste and help stay hydrated.

    Recycling Assembly

Representatives from Severn Trent came to teach the children about how to recycle their household waste. We learnt about all the different bins that you can find across Derbyshire and what goes in them, with particular emphasis on the bins the children will have at home. The pupils learnt where to put their cardboard and paper, what goes in your garden waste bin and also what types of food can go into your food waste bin (so there should be no excuses from them about not knowing where to put their rubbish!!)

As an extra treat, MBHT got a visit from a recycling lorry so the children could see first hand how their waste is transported and the job that is involved in transporting it. They got to see the lifts and crusher in action, as well as being able to sit in the cab to see the high-tech dashboard and cameras.

    Hydration Heroes and Plastic Pollution

As part of the work that Severn Trent do to help keep our waters safe and clean, MBHT were able to take part in a hydration assembly, where the children learnt all about how to keep hydrated, what can make you dehydrated and what we should do with our plastics when we are finished with them. We followed the story of a young person that had a busy day and we identified when they would need a drink as they were getting dehydrated. Children also learnt about the PEE Scale which helps us to identify when our bodies are telling us we need to drink some water based upon the colour of our urine!

Will you take the pledge and stay hydrated?

    "I promise to stay hydrated,

by drinking plenty of tap water,

    using a refillable water bottle,

    and recycle my plastics,

to help look after our environment."

    Tue 22 Nov 2022

Two of our amazing parents (Sarah and Sally), very kindly volunteered today to give the garden area a winter tidy up.  It looks fantastic!  Thank you very much, it is very appreciated.
