On our most recent Collective Worship in church, we looked at Lent and what it means for Christians during this time. During Lent, Christians decide to "give up" something in their lives so that they can feel closer to God. This relates to the story in the Bible, where Jesus entered the desert to prepare himself for his teaching of the Word of God. He didn't eat for 40 days, even thought the Devil tried to temp Jesus.
To mark the beginning of Lent (and to use up all the flour, eggs and sugar in the house), we celebrate Shrove Tuesday, more commonly known as Pancake Day! Shelia set the children the challenge to see how many flips of a pancake they could do in 15 seconds. The children persevered in their challenge very well.
