  • "Love in a box" Christmas shoebox appeal

    Fri 24 Nov 2023

The Rotary Club of Derby launched the ‘Love in a Box’ Christmas shoebox appeal again this year, in support of the Teams4U national appeal. They invited schools, churches, businesses and individuals to pack shoeboxes with small gifts that they can transport to children in Eastern Europe, including Ukraine, who are living in poverty and would otherwise receive nothing at Christmas.

Our families, children and staff rallied together to make up over twenty boxes for this appeal.  The boxes were collected on Friday and have been deposited in Derby ready to be delivered to help children enjoy their Christmas.  A massive well done and thank you.

  • 🏃‍♂️Children in Need Vernon Kay Ultramarathon🏃‍♂️

    Thu 16 Nov 2023

Vernon Kay, who presents Radio 2's mid-morning show, has been challenged to travel from Leicester to Bolton over four days - all by the power of his own two feet. In total he'll be travelling over 115 miles by the morning of Friday 17 November. What a journey!

On Wednesday 15th November, just after lunch time, the children and staff here at MBHT made our way to the bottom of Clifton Road to cheer on Vernon Kay on his epic challenge. After a short while waiting (and waving at every car that passed us), we spotted Vernon in the distance making his way along the road. Everyone was very excited to be so close to a celebrity and to support him on his fundraising efforts.

To add to the excitement, all the children received a high five from the man himself! It was great to be able to support Vernon in his fundraising and it was an experience the children will not forget for a long time.

  • 🎶 A Quizzical Night of Music🎶

    Mon 13 Nov 2023

On Friday 10th November, the MBHT PTFA hosted their first quiz night at school. We had an amazing night full of music by the extraordinary local legend John Gill (and special guest on the djembe drum, Red) and an intense quiz all about Matlock Bath. We had a great turn out with guests from across the MBHT community and together, we managed to raise a whopping £538, which will be going towards refurbishing the canopy above the mural outside of the school's front doors and to the PTFA so that they can continue the outstanding work they have been doing to provide the school with amazing opportunities.

  • ⭐Introducing the Star Table⭐

    Fri 27 Oct 2023

We have reintroduced a new part of our school day on a Friday. Alongside all the wonderful food the children are prepared by Mrs Morris, the pupils that have been celebrated in Stars Assembly get to sit on their own table.

The table is laid out with a beautiful golden table cloth and each pupil has their own place setting (along with a little chocolate treat!). As you can see from the picture below, the children feel very proud to be sat at the Star Table.

  • 📖🖊️My First Story Young Writers Winner!!🖊️📖

    Fri 27 Oct 2023

Everyone here at MBHT would like to congratulate Ebony on getting her amazing story about an adventure at the zoo published.

Young Writers gives budding poets and writers, who are under 18, the chance to get their ideas and wonderful writing published in a national collection of stories. Ebony entered her story, alongside hundreds of other children across the country, and was lucky enough to win a place in the 2023-2024 My First Story story collection. Ebony was over the moon to hear the news that she was now a published author and I am sure that this will not be the last time we see her name in bold.

    Congratulations Ebony!!

  • 💃🕺MBHTs Got Talent🕺💃

    Mon 03 Jul 2023

On Friday 30th June, MBHT gathered to witness the amazing showcase of talents we have in school. We had some fantastic footballers, super singers, dramatic dancers and some awesome acrobats.  We had a great afternoon watching all of our friends show off their skills and seeing the children showcase their strengths outside the classroom.

Congratulations to Margot in the Juniors for winning all over with her out of this world dance routine and to Edie & Ada for their gymnastics display.

Videos are live over on our gallery page. Navigate to the MBHTs Got Talent section and enjoy.

  • New Bees

    Tue 06 Jun 2023

We have been very fortunate and are extremely grateful to have been donated 2 "NUCS" of bees from a member of the DBKA following the demise of our colony after a long and wet Winter/Spring.  In addition, we have also gained another hive - we now have two!

Sarah and a couple of our children transferred the bees into the hives and completed a health check and ensured the bees were ready for their new homes.

We hope we will have more success this year and will keep you updated on developments as the colonies grow and the children take an active part in managing the hives.

  • Bunting Cup 2023

    Thu 25 May 2023

The school entered a team into the Bunting Cup on Thursday 25th May and were drawn into a group with seven other small schools from the local area.  The team played with passion and skill and showed superb sportsmanship throughout the competition.

After a nervous first game, losing 3-0 (although it was much closer than this), the team gelled together and played some excellent football, winning four and drawing two of the next six matches (scoring eighteen and only conceding one).

Results didn't quite go our way and the team just missed out on top spot for the group, finishing runners-up!

A fantastic effort by all involved.  We look forward to next year.

  • Caught Reading

    Mon 22 May 2023

If you go down to the woods today, you're in for a big surprise.

The staff here at MBHT were surprised when we went down to the playground on Friday 19th  May. The children had set themselves up under the trees, lounging on the hillside and even sat round the Forest Schools area, ready to get stuck into their books. Take a look to see where they decided to get lost in a book!

  • 🚲🚵Cyclo-Cross🚵‍♂️🚲

    Thu 20 Apr 2023

On Wednesday 19th April, a selection of pupils from the Juniors travelled to Bamford to take part in a Cyclo-Cross event. When we arrived, each pupil was kitted up in a very fabulous pink bib and selected a bike to ride. The pupils made adjustments so they were in optimal shape to take on the competition.

The course consisted of three different sections: the straights where the children could use their speed to swoop past the competition, the tight corners which gave the children a chance to showcase their controlled turning and finally the zig zags that challenged the children to take several corners one after another.

The pupils we took were amazing and put 110% into all their races. The girls kicked off the event with their race, seeing our team taking second place and staying as group in the top 10. The boys were up next and managed to weave their way into second and third. In the mixed race, our team cycled hard to take spots in the top 3 and beat a large number of the other 3 teams.

To round of the afternoon, the children took part in a relay race where they whizzed with all their might to ride a lap of the course before running to tag the next person. After the relay, teacher and parents had the opportunity to race the children and luckily, Miss Parsons graciously volunteered to captain our team.

We had a great afternoon trying a new sport (for most of us) and cheering on our friends.
