  • 🌈🎵Rainbow Disco🎵🌈

    Fri 21 Oct 2022

Yesterday afternoon, MBHT threw on their party clothes and had a bit of a boogie. We danced till we could dance no more, devoured our hot dogs and chug some squash, ready for round 2. The children enjoyed playing musical statues (don't move!!), musical bumps and then the most hilarious game ever- PAPER ISLANDS!! Everyone had a great time. What an amazing way to end the first half of the Autumn term.

  • October Bee Update!

    Tue 04 Oct 2022

When we came back to school at the start of September, we found that our hive and bees were not in good shape. Over the summer, the queen had gone missing (we don't know if she died or killed while out exploring). This meant that the colony was starting to die off as no new eggs were being laid. There were only a handful of bees left that and they were not really doing much. BUT.....

Sarah Parsons has come to our rescue. Being an avid bee keeper herself, she has kindly donated one of her colony to school and will be helping us to care for them. she came in to talk to the Juniors on Monday (3rd October) to talk through what happened to the bees and what we will be doing with the new hive. We also had the chance to taste some of Sarah's honey from her garden hives which went down a treat.

We are looking forward to learning more about the bees and being able to help them produce some yummy honey.

  • Cressida Cowell Goes Live!!

    Tue 27 Sep 2022

As part of our Readathon. KS2 had the pleasure of being part of a special event hosted by Read for Good. The Juniors had the chance to speak to Cressida Cowell ( the brilliant author behind The How to Train Your Dragon series and Wizards of Once series) about what inspired her to be an author. She also spoke about her love for writing, the importance of doing research and the wonderful things people like about her books. As an extra special treat, Cressida read from her brand new book, Which Way to Anywhere. The Juniors really enjoyed being able to meet one of their favourite authors.

  • Open the Book: Joseph and his coat of many colours

    Tue 27 Sep 2022

On Tuesday 26th September, KS2 had the pleasure of the ladies from Open the Book, who teach us all about the bible with some amazing acting. On this occasion, we opened the book on the story of Joseph and his coat of many colours. As you can see from the pictures below, KS2 enjoyed acting out the story and threw themselves into their roles. We left the story on a cliff hanger, Joseph was imprisoned and his fate was hanging in the balance... Keep an eye out for our next visit to find out what happens next.

  • Willow Class Go To Cromford Mills

    Mon 26 Sep 2022

On Monday 26th September, Willow Class adventured to Cromford Mill for the day. While they were there, they learnt all about why the mill was built, how it worked and what was made in the mill. As you can see from the photos, Willow Class had a great time using the machines to learn how the pumps worked, how goods were transported using pulleys and inside, they had a go with making thread using wool and handcards. Willow Class learnt lots of wonderful things that they can use in their topic back in the classroom.

  • Bee Check Up

    Tue 19 Jul 2022

As we start to get ready for the last few days of the school year, the Juniors have been busy bees making sure our latest additions are all in good shape. With the help from David, the ever-knowledgeable bee man, our Junior Apiarists performed a health check on our hive.

Last week, we saw a swarm of bees in the trees by the playground and after much discussion with David, we realised that they were OUR BEES!! But do not worry, it is very common when a hive gets too cramped, some of the bees leave the hive along with the queen. In preparation, the queen bee lays several larvae that will hatch into queens themselves (but only one will survive!). During the health check, Mr Layhe-Humphreys and David were able to identify our new queen (name pending) and to see that our hive is thriving in the school grounds.
We hope our new queen settles in well to the hive and wish BEE-yonce (our former queen) luck on her new adventure.

  • Junior Clarinet Concert

    Mon 11 Jul 2022

Last Monday, the Juniors performed their clarinet concert to their adoring fans/parents. They have worked hard all year to be able to play all the different notes and to learn their songs ready to wow their audience. We are very proud of all that they have achieved and we look forward to seeing their musical talents blossom next year.

    Wed 06 Jul 2022

The children have had an amazing Sports Day, competing against each other for the first time in what seems ages!  The sports were exciting and fun and the children demonstrated great sportsmanship.  It was also lovely to have parents on site watching and cheering the children.  A special thanks must go to our sports coach - Miss Whiteman, for organising the day.  Finally, congratulations to Haddon House on winning the sports competition.

Children have begun to learn how to dance around a Maypole.  Once we have refined our moves and learnt some sequences over the coming weeks, the children will do a small performance to parents in the final week of term. Here are a few pictures of the children practicing a few of the dances before we break up for summer. Head over to the Gallery to watch the children in action.

  • Author Visit- Billy Bob Buttons

    Wed 29 Jun 2022

Last Thursday, the children here at MBHT were visited by Billy Bob Buttons, who spoke with the Juniors about how to create exciting stories and what tips he had for making his characters more interesting. The Infants did not miss out on the fun as they were read two of Billy Bob Buttons' books, The Hungry Grasshopper and Never Tickle the Tickle Monster. Rave reviews from all of Willow Class. To end his visit, Billy Bob Buttons challenged the Juniors to draw a picture of the Tickle Monster from a description he read. The results were amazing and a little bit scary!!
